Her blonde hair was shoved back behind her shoulders, all but a small strip that protected her blind eyes. She walked barefoot down the road, the mens t-shirt she was wearing reflecting the heat of the summer sun. She smiled, expertley avoiding children playing tag. From far away, no one could tell that she was blind.

A big white fluffy dog trotted along. He was a stray and was quite scraggly. He saw the girl and made his way to her. Tommy barked gently, licking lher hand as he walked right next to her.

She smiled, bending down to the dog. "Hello, baby. Whats your name?"

Tommy barked, he understood the question, but didn't know how to respond. He whimpered gently.

"Aw, are you hurt?" She felt moved her hands along his body, searching for injuries.

Tommy whimpered again as she touched a large gash in his back.

She pulled her hand back, feeling something wet. She reached into the bckpack she was carrying and pulled out a washrag. She wiped the blood off gently, then wrapped the rag around it.

Tommy licked her hand gently. He barked happily.

She laughed. "You remind me of someone."

He cocked his head. who? he thought to himself. He licked her hand again.

"My old dog was jst like you. If it wasn't for him, I'd be as flat as a pancake."

He let out a small questioning whine.

"He pushed me out of the way of a moving car whose brakes had broken."

Tommy blinked, unsure what to do. He licked her hand again and pressed closer to her.

She patted his head, smiling with slightly yellow teeth.

Tommy looked up at her, adoring her already.

"So, where to, boy?"

He thought for a moment.. Where too.... Where should we go? He gave up and licked her hand. He had no idea.

She smled."Okay, then."

He barked gently.
