A small, black blanket filly stood at the starting gates, scraping her hooves impatienlty over the dirt in her stall. Her rider patted her neck, whispering a few, soft words in her audits."Easy. It's almost there." She snorted, and let out a whistle."Easy." He warned again, his whip lay lightly on her haunches. 'Any minute now...'He told himslef and that was when the gates opened with a bang from the gun. Star galloped down the track, passing some younger filly who looked to be sick. Star lunged forward now, her ears pinned to her skull and her neck as far forward as it could go as she sped up, her legs running over the wet dirt. She passed an older filly, the filly snorting as Star passed. Star came into tie with a young, throughbred filly the same age as her. They snorted at each other as they both passed the half mile mark. Faster they went, their hooves pounding the earth with force and speed. Thew crowd grew silent as they came upon the 3/4 mark, still side by side. Star lunged forward, her legs at their full extent and her sped reached over 32.5 mph and the other filly sped up to meet the pace. 100 yard mark. Same speed and their paces matched still. 100 foot mark and the filly sped up one hoofstep before Star and caught on a root. The filly tripped, her rider falling right beside her. Star snorted as the other riders caught up and she ran past the finish line, still galloping. The drowd grew silent and they turned around to see the filly's rider laying bloodily on the ground,apramedics gathered around. "Such a terrible accident," The announcer announced, no tone or emotion in his voice,"But, we have a champion. Please go over to the stand." Star's rider pulled on the reins and Star turned around, heading towards the stand where she was given a necklace made of flowers and she nibbled on it. Her rider got a trophy and a news reporter asked him some questions. 'Shaton would be proud,' Star thought to herself.
